The 3E Framework for Joyful Workplace Environments - How Engagement, Enchantment, and Entertainment Drive Culture, Connection, and Performance

Approved for 1.5 SHRM and HRCI credits. Dinner provided by Mama's Cafe Baci.

SHRM BASK Knowledge Domain:

  • People (Employee engagement, motivation, wellbeing, retention)
  • Organization (Organizational culture, effectiveness, design, performance outcomes)
  • Workplace (Workplace experience, environment, inclusion, and employee relations)

In this highly interactive and energizing session, HR leaders will explore the 3E Framework—Engagement, Enchantment, and Entertainment—as a practical approach to designing joyful employee experiences and environments that boost engagement, retention, and performance.

Drawing from positive psychology, environmental design, and real-world case studies, this workshop goes beyond theory. Participants will examine key moments across the employee lifecycle — onboarding, meetings, shared spaces, and rituals — and learn how small, intentional design choices can create meaningful impact without large budgets or major renovations.

Through hands-on exercises, reflection, and idea-sharing, attendees will rethink workplace experience through a joy-centered lens. You’ll leave with a fresh perspective, a simple, actionable framework, and ideas you can implement immediately to make your organization feel more human, connected, and energized.

  • ·       Recognize joy as a measurable driver of engagement, wellbeing, and retention
  • ·       Identify “moments that matter” where experience design has the greatest impact
  • ·       Apply the 3E Framework to redesign workplace experiences and environments
  • ·      Develop immediately actionable strategies to bring joy and connection to their workplace

Presenter – Darlene White

Darlene White

Darlene is a workplace experience designer, founder, and doctoral researcher specializing in how intentional design drives engagement, behavior, and performance. A three-time Houzz Best of Service award winner and former on-air designer for HGTV’s Real Estate Intervention, she has led high-impact design initiatives across real estate, education, and organizational environments.

As the founder of one of New Jersey’s earliest luxury home-staging firms, Darlene helped reconceptualize countless properties—many selling within days and for as much as $100,000 over list price. Long before “staging” became a widely recognized marketing strategy, she trained hundreds of Realtors on how environments and experiences influence perception and decision-making. Her leadership also spans senior showroom design and immersive experience creation, including large-scale interactive installations and the development of Centenary University’s first in-house pre-college academy.

Through her doctoral research, The Architecture of Joy, Darlene translates environmental design and positive psychology into practical strategies for HR leaders to build more engaged, connected, and joyful workplaces.
